LOCAL INFORMATION
Coming further East you will find the resorts of Hersonissos and Malia. Catering mainly for the younger set, the two places are not for you if you want a peaceful holiday. The area is quite “green” but is getting more and more built up.
Once you get past Malia and nearer to Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, things start to change. You will find less visitors, less traffic, more secluded bays, a little less greenery, lower mountains, sunnier weather and definitely a more relaxed approach to life.
A drive from Agios Nikolaos along the coast towards Siteia, (which takes about 70 minutes) is quite an experience and offers many beautiful cliff top views.
Once you have visited Sitia, you can turn right and drive through the hills and drop down onto the South coast.
The South of the island is very simple indeed and offers less (commercially) for the visitor to do, as it is mainly made up of small fishing villages but nevertheless, is well worth a day out to tour
round it, if only to experience it’s “quaintness”, scenery and totally secluded beaches!
Nowhere in Crete is too far to visit during your stay. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of things to do
and see within a couple of hours drive of Elounda.
Details of many of these and simple directions of how to find them, will be sat waiting for you in your villa when you arrive.
