Should you visit in
Spring? (Depending on your needs, possibly the best
time of the year to visit)
Crete should be lovely and
warm but not too hot, the hillsides covered in flowers, the
sea cool, but nevertheless plenty warm enough to be in, the
locals are fresh from their Winter slumbers and looking
forward to seeing you and, due to the fact that it is early
season, a great time to come.
Or
Summertime? (May/June
through to September/October)
Obviously the most popular
time for visitors, due to the school holidays in the UK and the guaranteed
high temperatures and sunshine. However don’t despair, Elounda
can help you there also. |

Because of their close
proximity to the main airport, the very great
majority of offered package holidays, are generally located
well to the West of Elounda. In Chania, Rethmenon, Hersonissos
and Malia etc. This suits us just fine. They get the crowded
beaches and we get the peace and beauty of Elounda!
Even at the height of summer, Elounda never
gets overcrowded and it's always easy to find plenty of space
on the beach, in the local taverna's or to stroll round the
shops. In fact Elounda is actually one of the places that
tourists from other parts of the island come to visit on day
trips, because it is so nice. |
What about visiting in
the Winter?
Crete’s “winter” is around the same
time as the one in the UK, ie, December, January and February
but that however is generally where the similarities end.
Whilst it can get cold and indeed does, (by Crete standards) and
you stand a good chance of seeing the locals walking round in hats,
scarves, jumpers and anoraks, you will most likely also, see European’s
sat round in the sunshine, having a drink outside one of the harbour
café’s, whilst wearing a “T” shirt, shorts, a pair of flip
flops and designer sunglasses.
So whatever the time of
your visit, you are sure to have a wonderful time on the
island. Elounda Bay is generally considered the prettiest
location in the whole of Crete. It offers peace, tranquillity,
relaxation and incredible views. No wonder that so many rich and
very famous people come to Elounda for their holidays. No wonder either,
that many visitors to Elounda come back year after year after year.
Lots even visiting 3 or 4 times a YEAR! |
